NEW ALBANY, Ind. — An escaped inmate who is eight months pregnant is back behind bars. Bridgette Sims, 23, surrendered to Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills Monday afternoon, the sheriff said.
Bridgette Sims, 23, told the sheriff she left the hospital because she was scared. She turned herself in after Mills talked with some of Sims’ relatives.
Sims was taken to the hospital by Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday to get treatment for her unborn child. Police say the woman had drugs in her system when she was arrested on Friday. She was having a medical test on Sunday when she made her move to get out of police custody.
“She asked to use the restroom,” said Maj. Andrew Sands. “At that time, the officer placed her restroom.”
Sands says Sims was being watched by an officer and a nurse but she didn’t stay in the restroom. She…
